Isn't it ironic that we celebrate Labor Day by not working?
September 5, 1882 is recorded as the first ever Labor Day celebrated in New York City by it wasn't until June 1894 was it an official national holiday. President Grover Cleveland signed a law making the first Monday in September, Labor Day. The holiday is an annual holiday to celebrate the many achievements of American workers.
There are lots of ways Americans celebrate this holiday. Some cities have parades or festivals. Some people have cookouts or enjoy a day or BBQing, whereas others take the day to catch up on housing projects that have been put off.
